The American Civil War (Created by Noah Veen, Thomas Phan, Michael Medina, and Jonathan Richardson)
The American Civil War (1861-1865) was one of the bloodiest wars ever fought in American History. The two sides involved in the war were the North (Union) and the South (Confederate). Upon Abraham Lincoln's election, several Southern states seceded from the Union, soon other joined. Many in the South were afraid that Lincoln would eventually abolish slavery in the South, causing secession. Later, they formed the Confederate States of America. They soon attacked federal reserves, arsenals, and forts. A spark that started the Civil War would eventually change America and its citizens. In 1861, Confederate troops raided and seized Fort Sumter, a federal outpost. Although no one was hurt, it would eventually ignite the flame of one of the bloodiest wars in U.S. History- the Civil War. Lincoln, in response to the attack on Fort Sumter called out for militiamen from the Union states to put down the rebels in the South. The North had major advantages over the South, such as industry, money, and population, but the South also had its advantages. They had a strong military tradition, along with strategic generals, such as General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Both had their own strategies, as the North planned to blockade the South and block Southern Ports. The war was fought on the South's land, and the South only needed to hold out until the Union grew tired of fighting them. Both sides rushed to war, but neither were prepared for it. 4 Years of bloodshed and dispute have begun.
